Motel Life

Candy Weiss plays with her pet pig Mindy Nicole and her rabbit Bugs Bunny in her motel room. "They love to play with one another, just like best friends" said Weiss. I started a project on family's that lived in motels in 2007 when i was in college. The family's lived there for various reason's some could not afford to pay the deposit apartments require and simply living in a motel on a month to month basis was all that was keeping them from sleeping on the street. I had not been back to the motels in several years so yesterday i decided to check in and see if any of the family's i had photographed where still living at the motels. I was unable to find several people and sad to hear that two men i had photographed had passed away. Richard Valone a former tool and die maker who lived at the Countryside Inn for the past ten years died of a heart attack. Richard was a very interesting guy that loved to talk about philosophy and had a infectious laugh. Bob Blair was another gentlemen that passed away. Bob was good hearted and the father of four children. I did reconnect with a lady who i photographed in 2007 and who helped me get into the motel community. I was happy to hear that two of her children had graduated high school and moved out of the motel and where working jobs as a nearby factory. Her third child will be graduating high school soon.
